Following the major earthquake in Nepal in April 2015, we were unable to obtain many of the Tibetan incense varieties produced in Nepal, including these two. Happily, supplies have now resumed.
Both these Snowlion and Lord Buddha traditional Tibetan incense varieties are produced by Chandra Devi in Kathmandu, using ancient Tibetan recipes.
Snowlion is described as a Special Quality zimpu ritual incense, composed of 55 ingredients including saffron, the Himalayan herb known as nagi, and both red and white sandalwood. Its manner of preparation is one of the ancient traditional arts of the monastic order of Tibet.
Lord Buddha (red sandalwood and herbs) is claimed to be the only incense made of the herbs grown at the foot of Mount Everest, and is said to bring spiritual happiness.
For both varieties, a pack contains 44 seven inch (18cm) sticks, which burn for around 50 to 60 minutes each, depending on conditions.
